Morning after rain

breathing in the soft damp that
beads still on the grass
that rounds the air

with smells of bark and dirt
spice of the earth
rising after rain

kissing the cheek
the sky like a big pearl
this is the way I like to wake

ohhh, i do, too, mb - i love to wake this way! and that smell of rain and earth is so enticing.

here in the pacific northwest it is pouring rain...flooding in some areas. it has rained for a week and will continue the remainder of this one and the coming weekend except for one day. fortunately, i love the rain, but a clear day will be a welcome gift.

"the sky like a big pearl"- yes! Rare in New England but precious.

I like the pairing with the previous poem about the sand in your heart - and that this one is more hopeful - but the other one is true and something I can often feel.

MB,

A fine thought! This is how we should all aspire to meet the day. I have been gone for a while, but I'm glad to come back and find you posting beautiful photos and poetry.

Wow - you captured the view I have when I am still snuggled under the quilt and look out my window. From now on I will think of the pearl

"kissing the cheek

Stunning imagery in these lines, and an unusual way for me to look at the sky in the future. Thanks for sharing.
