An owl's feather:

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is
translated through you into action, and because there is only one of
you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it
will never exist through any other medium and will be lost."

— Martha Graham

You find the best quotes. OK, maybe I'm biased, because they remind me of the importance of self expression.

This is both inspiring and threatening to me. Sounds like a lot to live up to.

There are other beliefs that state that if something needs to be expressed in the universe, it will. If I am inspired to write a book about a certain idea, then decide not to do it, someone else will do it. But I agree with Graham that only I can express something in my particular way.

Mermaid, thanks, I'm glad you find them meaningful.

Patry, she did indeed. Amazing woman.

Ruth, I'm sure you know about this, too!

Amy, I agree. I read this quote with an inkling of trepidation every time. But there is something in it that I also find reassuring and inspiring. Like a fingerprint, whatever we individually produce will be unique and has its deserved place in the world. When I put that together with the thought that the world needs people who are truly alive, and that one can be truly alive only by expressing/living out one's truest self, that adds up to a pretty inspiring equation. Creo ergo sum. (Did I get that right? Latin, anyone?)
