Further in

further in
between the shadows of the leaves

slide sideways
searching

slip through green
into darkness

light shifts
the lens adjusts

eyes widen
the smile lifts

in blue shadows
underneath

tender darkness
blanket-like

reach and touch
roots and tangles

soft soil
damp

depths of
further in

The stages of discovery. Beautiful and sensual. I like the lack of a full stop at the end as well ....

Like Mary and Snowsparkle, I do detect some sensual seduction here. Makes me want to plant some flowers;)

Thanks, mb, for sharing the wonders of this season with us!
I am enjoying all your gifts--the lovely birds, the pine scents in the sun, and the dark coolness in the shade. It is always better when someone else also appreciates, even from across the continent!

Those two final lines seem to describe the direction your poetry has taken. And takes us.

Your words "slide" like a little snake slipping through "green into darkness" "in blue shadows underneath" touching "roots and tangles" and "soft soil" "depths of/further in." Something softly sensual. And reminds me of Dickinson's poem, Snake somehow. At least that's the perspective suggested to me here... even in the flow of the tiny lines without punctuation or a beginning or ending.

Yeah! Couplets! I think they work so well, here, and there's that feeling of a mystery unfolding before you as you read this one. I love it!

I felt a small slap from a branchlet on my cheek as I tried to follow...need to go slower.

Love this.
Spare and right.
