Sentenced to confusion
all day I've tried
to ignore the vibration
of the floor under my seat
as the senseless hammering
of the jack in the street
shakes all my cells
loose and tumbling
disordered and topsy-turvy
like beads scattered across
the trembling wood floor and
lost among the grain there
I can't collect myself
to ignore the vibration
of the floor under my seat
as the senseless hammering
of the jack in the street
shakes all my cells
loose and tumbling
disordered and topsy-turvy
like beads scattered across
the trembling wood floor and
lost among the grain there
I can't collect myself

I've spent alot of years trying to collect myself, but pieces and parts always slip away. Of course I've never tried to do it under the direct supervision of a jack hammer. Too funny!!
Something is undoing your usual serene self. Let it have it's way, as long as it promises to restore the pieces to a stronger version of you.
D and Cat had a sleepless day from jackhammers in the street, after a sleepless night. I showed him this, he laughed.
Pat, my ongoing efforts to collect myself have been similarly elusive, and I've concluded that's the point. However, the "direct supervision of a jack hammer" is not a helpful addition under any circumstances. Glad you enjoyed it!
Mermaid, I was caught between a jackhammer and a migraine when I wrote this and trying to find a little humor to leaven the situation. I am completely restored today. Thank you for your good thoughts!
Zhoen, oh good, I'm so glad he laughed! Thanks.
like the whole poem but love the way it builds up to that ambiguous last line
nice one
Stop reading my mind, MB! ;-)
A gem.
Floots, thanks for noting the ambiguity!
Mary, I try not to, but it seems we think too much alike. Thanks.
I feel your pain noises can drive you nuts, I once took a clock apart in the middle of the night because it defied my best attempts to silence its ticking
Sue, your story makes me chuckle. I can also be sensitive to certain types of noises.
